In Butuan City, a shocking crime has taken place. A group of underage gang members beat up a defenseless teenage girl. The incident reportedly occurred in front of the PS Arcade on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

CCTV footage of the shocking act of violence will be used to bring the culprits to justice. ABS-CBN News released a report on the crime on Friday, August 11, 2017. They reported that the video showed the entire beating as it took place. Afterwards, the teenage girls believed to be underage gang members started mercilessly beating the defenseless teenager. The victim was punched, kicked, and dragged around by her attackers

Witness Xela Jane Laroa narrates that she and a few other witnesses tried to beg the underage gang members to stop their vicious assault. Unfortunately, they were too scared to intervene for fear of being involved. The attackers eventually stopped when an unidentified man approached them.

According to the Butuan City Police, investigations into the matter have yielded information that points to the identity of the underage gang members. Apparently, both the attackers and the victim are students of the same high school and they reportedly belong to rival gangs. This could explain why the attack took place.

A grade 9 junior high school student going by the pseudonym “Julia,” has confirmed that her school has a prevalent gang culture within its walls. She even shows the bruises she received from gang initiation rites. She states that over 100 underage gang members have been recruited to her gang.

Jeanie Mativo, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of DEPED in Butuan City, said that there are a lot of things to consider about this shocking act of underage violence.

A committee has reportedly been created to investigate the growing number of gangs inside schools. DEPED Butuan has yet to receive any reports about gang-related incidents from school principals in the area..
